Sometimes things feel worse before they feel better.
You know how this goes….
Like when you decide to clean out your closet! You take everything out and the mess looks FAR worse than when you began. All of the sudden you have clothes all over the place. Boxes of who-knows-what that you’re pulling out. A big pile of shoes. The mess that was just in your closet is not strung out throughout your entire bedroom. And it feels like it’s never going to end. You wonder why you even started.
This is the moment where a lot of people give up. Once they realize it’s not as easy or quick as they had imagined.
The same thing happens when we decide to change our diets and lose weight.
It will bring up EVERYTHING that has gotten in the way of it in the past. All the self-judgments, the misbeliefs, and uncomfortable emotions. Going after the goal will bring it all to the surface.
It’s like pulling everything out that was shoved into the closet for years.
We become aware of what we’re working with, and it can feel like A LOT!
Sometimes we realize how addicted we’ve been to food or how much we rely on it emotionally.
When we take the food away, we start to uncover the reason we’ve been overeating in the first place.
And that can be painful to see.
But here’s the truth. It doesn’t actually get worse. It just feels worse because we are now aware of it. Just like the mess we’ve pulled out of the closet. It’s been there all along, but when decide to clean it up, we have to face it.
On top of that, we no longer have our buffer (food) to distract us or take the edge off.
So we begin to feel more. We begin to experience our life for what it really is.
I felt like a hot mess once I began doing this work. But here’s the truth. It wasn’t anything that wasn’t there all along. I could just see it more clearly without the buffers.
And that’s a beautiful thing. That’s when we can make true changes that impact our lives in SUCH powerful ways.
Change ALWAYS begins with AWARENESS.
We can’t do it without it. It’s part a part of the journey we must embrace.
Once we see what’s been in the way, we can start to clear it.
We can begin to let go of our misbeliefs. Work with our relationship with ourself. Start living into our potential. Begin going after our dreams.
Eventually, you won’t even want food to entertain you because LIFE gets exciting!
So if you’ve started this journey and feel overwhelmed, DO NOT GIVE UP! You are right on track.
So many of us give up RIGHT before we’re about to turn a corner. Right when we’re at the edge of shifting some big things in our life. Don’t do that!
If you started this journey and ya feel like a mess, if you’re right in the middle of the river of misery, keep swimming. You WILL get to the other side. It’s part of the journey. If it were easy, everyone would do it! Let it be hard.
In health & happiness,
Jamie
