Why some diets don’t work

Have you ever started a diet or exercise plan with a friend or partner where they began dropping weight immediately, doing things half-ass, while you go all in, doing it perfectly and don’t lose a pound?

Yea…I’ve been there too.

The reason this happens is because of insulin resistance. If you are a woman with PCOS who struggles with your weight, you probably have insulin resistance. What this means is that your cells are not utilizing glucose (sugars & carbohydrates) for energy the same way someone without insulin resistance would. Having to much glucose in your bloodsteam spikes insulin, which quickly becomes stored as fat.

The good news is that this can be reversed and you can lose weight!

It just takes a specific type of diet to nourish someone with insulin resistance and PCOS. Which is why not just any old calorie reduction diet will work.

The most important thing to focus on if your intention is to lose weight with PCOS is reducing insulin!

Here are 4  ways to lower your insulin….

  1. Eliminating foods that spike insulin like carbohydrate-rich foods and sugars.
  2. Focusing on eating foods that don’t raise insulin levels much like healthy fats, non-starchy veggies, and protein.
  3. Eating less often. Every time we eat our insulin levels rise, so it’s best to avoid snacking, allowing your insulin levels to go down.
  4. Taking care of yourself, managing your stress, and getting adequate sleep!

Here’s the beautiful thing! Once you start eating in a way that works FOR your body and your PCOS, you will quickly SEE and FEEL the results.
