Happy Valentines Day!
What do you associate Valentines Day with? Loved ones and a big ol’ box of chocolate?
Holidays like this are where a lot of my clients struggle with their protocol. It can become challenging because we tend to associate certain foods with holidays.
And on Valentines Day, that might be chocolates and wine, which can feel like a bummer when that’s not part of our lifestyle anymore.
I know that for a lot of people that can feel really sad. It feels deeper than just saying no to some chocolates. That’s because we’re saying goodbye to something that may have felt so familiar and comforting. It may feel like we’re letting go of tradition.
But is there really a point in doing something that doesn’t serve us just because it’s a tradition?
For some of you, the answer is yes, and that’s ok. You can plan it as a joy eat. For others, you may be ready to develop new traditions that support your new lifestyle.
What if you could create new traditions that were BETTER than a box of chocolates??
Here’s how I recommend doing this….
Think about your future self, the one who has already reached her goal and feels amazing in her body. She naturally lives a healthy lifestyle with ease. What does she do to celebrate? What are her traditions? Write them down!
This exercise should give you some great ideas.
I quit using food as a way to celebrate a little over a year ago. I have found that it actually makes me more present and focused on what the celebration is about in the first place.
So for Valentines Day, I focus on my husband. Not sweets.
I write down all of the things I love about him on post-it notes and leave them around the house. We set time aside to be with each other, I make him his favorite meal. I don’t need sweets or alcohol to have a great time!
So what new, healthy traditions would you like to start? I’d love to hear your ideas! Share in the comments below!
Have a happy, healthy Valentine’s Day!
