So many of my clients come to me with a desire to feel more self-confident.
Last week, I shared about how “doing” and taking action helps build confidence, you can read more about that here.
This week, I thought I’d share a powerful exercise I did last month that helped me get into action and increase my own self-confidence.
If you’ve been following along with me on Insta-Stories over the past month, you got to experience me doing this activity.
It’s called “Dare of the Day.”
It was an exercise given to me by my mentor, Brooke Castillo.
Here’s how it worked… I got to choose my dare each day, BUT it had to be something outside of my comfort zone, whether it be WAY out or slightly out.
It was an uncomfortable, scary, yet incredible experience that I’m so glad I did!
Some of the dares I completed include:
Sharing my dares on social media each day.
Going to Toastmasters (a public speaking club) and speaking.
Flying across the country to see family members I hadn’t seen in years.
Doing a 24 hour fast.
Saying yes to throwing a big party at my house (major introvert here).
I have to say, while this exercise scared the sh*t out of me every single day, it was one of the most powerful things I’ve ever done.
Not only was I proud of myself at the end of each day for accomplishing something outside of my comfort zone, but it taught me a lesson I’ll never forget. Which is that…
Doing scary things isn’t so bad.
and
Resisting our fears is SO MUCH worse than actually doing them.
This exercise naturally got me thinking about all of the dares I’ve had to take along the way with my health and weight loss journey to get to the place I’m in now.
I’ve had to get out of my comfort zone time and time again, try new things, and face some of my greatest fears. I’ve gone through the discomfort of allowing urges, processing my emotions, letting go of relationships that no longer served my highest good, giving up alcohol, giving up comfort foods, investing in coaching, investing in doctors and practitioners, and while it may sound simple…the courage to set an impossible goal and commit to accomplishing it no matter what.
That’s just a handful of the dares I’ve done in order to courageously lose the excess weight and heal my PCOS. YES….weight loss takes courage and a lot of it!
So my question to you is, what dare do you need to take?
You may have heard the quote, “the only way out is through.”
After completing this activity, I can say with confidence, that it’s true!
Are you ready to get out of your comfort zone, build self-confidence, and go after your dreams?
I dare you!!!
In health & happiness,
Jamie
